It’s a question that has puzzled many of us for years. Like most life mysteries, the answer can usually be found on the internet. In fact, when studying for your professional CIPS exams the internet can provide a wide number of resources to help you prepare for your exams. Here we explore the benefits and pitfalls of using internet and A.I. for your CIPS studies.
BUT wait… Are they really good racecar drivers?
Thanks to advanced artificial intelligence technology, the internet can solve this riddle and also help with all sorts of technical dilemma.
This is what Google A.I. had to say on the matter when we prepared this article:
“Penguins are not actually good racing car drivers. The idea is a humorous one, likely stemming from the contrast between penguins’ waddling gait on land and their sleek, efficient swimming. While they are excellent swimmers and navigate their natural environment with skill, there’s no basis for the claim that they possess the necessary skills for racing cars.
Here’s why the idea is humorous:
Unsuitable anatomy:
Penguins have short legs, a streamlined body, and wings that are adapted for swimming, not for driving.
Lack of relevant skills:
Racing car drivers need excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, quick reflexes, and the ability to handle complex machinery, none of which penguins possess.
Humorous contrast:
The image of a penguin in a racing car is inherently comical due to the mismatch between the animal’s characteristics and the activity.
While penguins are fascinating creatures with remarkable abilities in their own environment, their talents do not translate to the world of motorsports. ”
why is this relevant?
We now live, work and study in the A.I. age. At the touch of a button on our mobiles, it can offer you a collection of information on almost any subject - including education programmes, learning resources and exam material.
But the penguin example above shows the information provided by A.I. is not 100% reliable. The processors provide a lot of factual information, nicely linked together, but at times the “intelligence” is missing. Racing cars aren’t built for penguins, of course they can’t drive!
Be careful what you trust!
So the moral of this long-winded post, is to be careful what you trust on the internet, especially if using A.I. to study for your CIPS.
We have had students inform us what A.I. predicts as the next set of exam questions …but that is ridiculous, because CIPS does not publish its papers online, so how could any processor use predictive analytics for the future?
Sometimes, a student might interrupt one of tutors to say that A.I. is giving a different answer. Well, this is OK and can be helpful to draw on alternative schools of thought, especially if it generates a wider understanding on a subject (particularly at Level 6) …but only if all sources are accurate and the based on verified information.
the conclusion
Currently (although it will adapt and change in the future) there is a tried and tested approach to learning professional procurement and supply knowledge, revising and preparing for professional exams. It requires personal commitment, diligence and hard work.
We fully respect the dedication shown by our CIPS students, who truly earn their professional qualifications through hard work and tested means.
A.I. can offer some complementary support on the journey, but it is not good enough to take over (yet).
